Seedling

Seedling is a sculpture that combines several smaller sculptures, vessels, and studies. Delicate, handmade copper wire chain and thread connect vessels made from abaca paper pulp that are textured to resemble a human brain and signifying an idea. This idea, these vessels, are connected further by paper veins and arteries that branch and reach out, a wet sheet of paper that was sliced and allowed to dry and curl into a shape of its own choosing. These arteries spring from a pulp-dipped metal organ, resembling a human heart which contains a small paper vessel inside. This piece represents 5 years of study and exploration of different methods of sculptural papermaking: an idea grown from the heart.
